Presets
Presets are the core of Permute. They represent pre-configured formats into which you can convert your files. You can customize the list of presets easily, disable them, add custom, remove unnecessary ones. Permute comes with some common presets enabled and it’s easy to add custom using the +
button in the bottom-left corner of the preference pane.
Permute allows you to set the video and audio format quality to several qualities. The basic 4 automatically adjust the bitrate based on the input file and output size:
- Low - low bitrate is used. Use this setting in case you want a quick conversion and don’t care that much about the visual output.
- Medium - this is the default, uses medium bitrate so that the conversion is quick while maintaining quality.
- High - use this setting for archiving videos or if you are not satisfied with the medium setting.
- Ultra - very high bitrate is used.
Additionally, there are two more advanced options which you can learn more about in the Advanced Usage chapter.
⚠️ WARNING: Some combinations of settings may not work. In particular, in case you set the video or audio quality to Copy
, make sure that you fully understand the meaning of this setting. It will not check for compatibility, it will just try to copy the track into the resulting file. Using incompatible input files will result in errors.
