Why Vidarium

Think Photos, but for video

No walled garden, no import-and-pray. Just a fast organizational layer over the files you already have.

🖼️

Thumbnails for Any Format

MKV, AVI, WMV, MOV, MP4 and more all get crisp poster frames — including the formats Finder and Quick Look leave blank.

👆

Hover to Scrub

Move your pointer across a clip and Vidarium plays a multi-frame preview, so you can find the right video without opening a thing.

📍

Your Files Stay Put

Create a library in any folder you choose and Vidarium points at the files you already have — no copying into a hidden database, no moving them behind your back.

Custom-folder libraries are part of Vidarium PRO; the free Local library keeps its own copy of your videos.

🗂️

Organize the Way You Think

Hierarchical folders that can mirror your disk — or stay purely in-app. Cross-cut everything with tags, people and collections.

🔎

Saved & Advanced Searches

A full rule editor means "4K clips of the kids from last summer, rated 4+" is one click away. Ratings and rich per-file details live in the inspector.

▶️

Plays in Place

An in-grid player on Mac and iPad, full-screen on iPhone — with play-all and shuffle queues. Drag and drop to import and reorganize.

☁️

On-Demand iCloud Sync

Keep one iCloud library in sync across devices. Organization syncs instantly; the actual files download on demand — with live progress, never silently deleted.

Part of Vidarium PRO.

🏷️

Automatic AI Tagging

Let on-device AI tag your clips for you — one at a time or your entire library with Auto-Tag — and fix file names using the video's original web page.

🔒

No Server, No Lock-In

A local-first app, not a streaming box. No account required, no ad SDKs, no tracking. Delete the app and your videos are completely untouched.

Frequently asked questions

Is Vidarium free?

Yes — the built-in Local library and all core features are free, with no time limit. Vidarium PRO is a single one-time $19.99 in-app purchase that unlocks the power features on every device you own. There's no subscription.

What does Vidarium PRO add?

The iCloud library, libraries stored in any folder you choose, automatic AI tagging (including Auto-Tag for the whole library), fixing file names from a video's original web page, and — on the Mac — downsizing single videos or your entire library plus a full metadata editor. One purchase unlocks every current and future PRO feature.

What do I need to run it?

Vidarium requires macOS 26 on an Apple Silicon Mac, or iOS 26 / iPadOS 26 (or later).

Does Vidarium move or copy my video files?

It depends on the library. The free Local library lives inside Vidarium's own app container, so videos you add to it are copied there. With Vidarium PRO you can create a library in any folder you choose — those libraries point at the files you already have, never copy your originals into a hidden database, and never move them without asking. Delete the app and the videos in your own folders are exactly where you left them.

How does iCloud sync work?

With PRO, you can keep one iCloud library in sync across your devices. Organization — folders, tags, people, ratings — syncs instantly; the actual video files download on demand, with live progress, and are never silently deleted.

Is my library private?

Yes. Vidarium has no ad SDKs, no tracking and no required account. Your library lives on your disk and, if you choose, in your own iCloud — and only your own iCloud. AI tagging runs on-device.

Is there a Setapp version?

Yes — Vidarium is available as part of your Setapp subscription on Mac, iPhone and iPad, with every PRO feature unlocked. If you're already a Setapp member, just install it from Setapp — there's no separate PRO purchase to make.
