Permute's Workshop
Permute’s Workshop is a great way for Permute to offer less frequently used tools. Permute’s intention is to be a Swiss army knife of conversions, allowing you to get anything done. Permute’s Workshop allows Permute to be extended beyond simple conversions. By default, the workshop modules are not enabled by default, but one can easily enable them up in preferences.
Here is a quick overview of workshop modules currently bundled with Permute:
- Apply PDF Filter - this allows you to apply various filters to PDF files, including file size reduction. These filters are part of macOS and can be edited or added via the ColorSync Utility that’s part of macOS.
- Cue Cutter - if you have a WAV file (or any other) that contains multiple tracks, defined in a
.cue
file, this is what you’ve been looking for - drop in the.cue
file and let Permute split it up for you. - IP Camera H.264 Fix-Up - some IP cameras produce a
.264
video files that are not playable anywhere, or the playback is not easily achievable. Permute can fix these files for you. - MP4 Web Optimization - some MP4 files can have the
moov
atom located at the end of the file. This is fine for local playback, but is less optimal for embedding these videos on a webpage as the video needs to fully load before it can be played. This workshop module moves the atom to the front of the file, allowing playback while still loading. Note that Permute’s presets that produce MP4 files already produce files withmoov
atoms at the beginning of the file. - PDF to Images - this module allows you to export each page of a PDF file as an image. Generally the opposite of the merge functionality.
- Track Export - allows you to export individual tracks of the video.
