Playback

Double-click a video, click its play button, or press the space bar to start playing the selection. On Mac the player opens over the grid so the inspector stays available for editing.

Player controls (Mac & iPad)

Move the mouse to reveal the control panel at the bottom of the player; it slides away a few seconds after the pointer stops. It offers jump back/forward by 10 seconds, play/pause (space bar), the current and total time — click the total to switch to the remaining time — a playback-speed menu, volume, AirPlay, and previous/next. The close button sits in the top-left corner, and Escape always closes the player.

On iPad, videos play full screen with the same glass control panel. Tap the video to show or hide the controls — they also appear when a trackpad pointer moves — and use the large center button to play or pause. On iPhone, the system player is used, and tapping an already-selected video starts playing it.

Hover over the time slider to see small previews of the video at that position, so you can find a scene before seeking. The previews exist only while the video is open and are never stored.

Keyboard shortcuts (Mac)

While the player is open:

  • Space — play or pause
  • ⌘← — previous video
  • ⌘→ — next video
  • Esc — close the player

Playing a queue

Use the previous and next controls to step through the listed videos. Press and hold the play button in the toolbar for Play All or Play in Random Order, which advance automatically to the next video.

With several videos selected, the play button plays exactly that selection, in order.

Thumbnails

Hover a tile with the pointer to scrub through preview frames. Thumbnails are generated in the background and cached; deleting a video clears its cached images. To choose the exact frame a video's tile shows, right-click it and pick Select Thumbnail… — scrub the timeline to the frame you want and click Done; the choice is remembered.

iCloud videos

If you play a video from the iCloud library whose file has not been downloaded to this device yet, Vidarium downloads it first and starts playing as soon as it is ready.

Turn on the Related Videos bar from the grid toolbar or View ▸ Related Videos to see a row of videos connected to the current selection — videos sharing its people rank first, then those sharing tags. Ten are shown at a time; Load More reveals the next batch. Hover a tile for its title, and use its play button to start playing the related list — or, while something is already playing, to choose Play Now, Play Next, or Add to Playlist, which extends the current queue.

Other players

Right-click a video and choose Open in External Player (Mac) to open the file in the app that owns its format. On iPhone and iPad, use Share from the same menu to hand the file to another video app.
