Welcome to Vidarium

Vidarium is a local-first video library manager. A library is simply a folder of videos; Vidarium adds an organizational layer on top — folders, collections, people, tags, and saved searches — together with thumbnails and hover-scrub previews.

Choosing a library

On first launch you can use the built-in Local library, create a library from a folder of videos, open an existing library, or — if you are signed into iCloud — use the iCloud library that syncs across your devices.

  • Local library — a ready-made library in the app's own storage, available on every device with no setup.
  • New from folder — point Vidarium at a folder of videos.
  • Open existing — reopen a folder that already contains a Vidarium library.
  • iCloud library — keep your library in sync across devices.

Copied in, or managed in place?

Files you add to a library — by dragging them in, with File ▸ Add Files…, or via the share sheet — are copied into the library's folder; the originals stay where they were. This is easy to miss with the Local library, which lives in the app's own storage: adding a video there means a second copy exists inside Vidarium.

If you want Vidarium to manage videos right where they already are — with no copies — create a library from their folder instead (New from folder, or Settings ▸ Libraries ▸ New). The folder itself becomes the library, and the videos are used in place.
