Tag & People Suggestions
When you select a video that has no tags or people yet, Vidarium looks at its file name, folder, and the file's people metadata — authors, cast, and director — and suggests matching labels in a colorful Suggestions section at the top of the inspector. On devices with Apple Intelligence the matching runs through the on-device model; everywhere else a fast text comparison is used. Nothing ever leaves your device.
Accepting suggestions
Click a suggestion to apply it, or click Add All to apply everything at once. Suggestions appear about a second after you settle on a video, so stepping quickly through the grid stays fast. During playback, suggestions for the previous and next videos are prepared ahead of time.
New tags and people
Names like #beach or @jane in a file name — and authors that don't match anyone in your library — are offered as brand-new entries, drawn with a dashed outline. Clicking one shows spelling options (for example @jane, jane, Jane) so you can pick how the new tag or person should be written. Add All uses the plain spelling with the # or @ removed. If a matching entry already exists, Vidarium suggests that one instead of creating a duplicate.
Renaming and turning it off
Renaming a video refreshes its suggestions right away. If you'd rather not see suggestions at all, turn off "Suggest tags and people for videos" in Settings ▸ General.
Adding people from metadata automatically
A library can create people for you: with "Automatically add people from metadata" enabled (chosen when creating the library, or later in Library Settings), every newly imported file's people metadata — authors, cast, and director — is read and matching people are created and assigned on the spot. Existing people are matched regardless of capitalization, so no duplicates appear.
Tagging new files automatically
Going one step further, "Automatically tag new files using AI Suggestions" runs every newly imported file through the same suggestion engine and applies everything it finds — existing tags and people are assigned, and suggested new ones are created, exactly as if you pressed Add All. The analysis happens on your device; note that large imports take longer with this enabled. To apply the same treatment to files that are already in the library, use Auto-Tag Now in the Library Settings — it shows its progress and can be cancelled; keep Vidarium open until it finishes.
